I wouldn't call her the greatest living sax player or anything but I find her creative and expressive in an enjoyable way. However, there isn't much that separates that style of record from "smooth jazz" which I think some would find negative. The production isn't as slick, there's no constant ambient keyboard in the background, and the melodies aren't as repetitive, but it's heavy groove playing within a type of soundscape. I'd happily have more groove, or more rhythm. I quite like the keyboards (a mate saw Armon-Jones recently in a different setting and was raving about him). It just seems like it is a bit middle of the road. I'm happy she is getting exposure though. People obviously like her music. Edited November 3, 2021 by Rabshakeh Quote
jazzbo Posted November 3, 2021 Report Posted November 3, 2021 Two cd set of well-chosen material from this period. Not great sounding source recordings but great music. This DALAUDIO amp is really sounding interesting. Quote

HutchFan Posted November 4, 2021 Report Posted November 4, 2021 Now: Disc 2 - Live! Two of Martino's toughest, baddest records -- both originally released on Muse. 32 Jazz reissued them in this two-CD set. I like the reissue title: Head and Heart. Yeah. A good summation of Pat Martino's music. R.I.P. Quote
