Rabshakeh Posted October 30, 2021 Report Posted October 30, 2021 Tete Mbambisa - Did You Tell Your Mother (The Sun, 1979) Dunno about the creepy title and artwork, but this has some good Basil Coetzee on. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted October 30, 2021 Report Posted October 30, 2021 Disc 1 - Paul Quinichette sounds very good. On take 2 of "Paradise Squat", Eddie Lockjaw Davis takes and outstanding solo. Quote

Ufff, the sound of the soprano sax gets on my nerves here and there, although not to the point that it happens with Coltrane. And I have to recognise it is yet another excellent interpretation of Monk’s music, which we all love. Quote

Feel you .... at the same time Steve Lacy`s soprano sound from the around mid eighties onwards got rid of some edges without losing poise - quite in the contrary .... Quote

I doubt you can get the Msomi but it's uneven. Some tracks are great, others have a whining female vocal group. Even I don't like those tracks The Holmes is bloomin' fantastic. John Fourie worked for a long time in the USA and knows both kinds of music. He was the fuzz guitarist on Earland's 'Intensity'. The Cliffs album is very good. Coltrane's influence on Mankunku is pretty clear, which is a downer to me, but probably not to most people here. MG Quote
