Larry Kart Posted July 24, 2017 Report Posted July 24, 2017 LPs bought over the weekend at a used record store in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The Milt band is comprised of Teddy Edwards, Cedar Walton, Ray Brown, and Billy Higgins. Walton is in really fine form. The Hawes-Solal duo is accompanied by Pierrre Michelot and Kenny Clarke. Quote

I have the Chiaroscuro CD and I knew about the Roulette disc, but I did not know about the Live st Lauren. That's something new to keep an eye out for. Thanks. Listening to: A bunch of 1960's pop & rock songs covered by jazz legends. Frequently kind of hokey and occasionally cringeworthy (especially the tracks from Chet Baker's Blood, Chet & Tears album -- I suppose he got through that session by telling himself, "Hey, at least it's not the Mariachi Brass!"). Hearing OP and Bags wail on "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" is a hoot. Quote
duaneiac Posted July 25, 2017 Report Posted July 25, 2017 A performance recorded on Bob Dorough's 92nd birthday. Any one looking for vocal perfection has probably never sought out Mr. Dorough for singing enjoyment. Time has taken a bit of a toll on his singing voice ("Flamingo" is a tough row to hoe for any singer, let alone a 92 year old one), but his piano playing is still quite strong and he has retained his incredibly youthful spirit. This CD is a pleasant document of a special celebration and will likely be enjoyed by his fans. Quote
