Well, he was a big band drummer, but hear it is uncomfortable to hear that old fashioned use of the bass drum so you almost can´t hear the bassist. So, while Hank is so hip, that rhythm section with a Gene Krupa like drumming really sounds stiff and does not support the soloists, but forces them to keep in a certain direction.
