Just finished this absolute beast:

Jaki Byard Quartet - Live! Vol. 1

Don't forget to pick up Live! Vol. 2 and The Last From Lennie's to complete the set.

When I was working on the liner notes for the latter CD, the label sent me the remaining unissued music from the date, which will never see the light of day. It included several rehearsals of "King David" and other tracks from the gig.

It's one of my favourite live jazz albums ever, along with Vol. 2. I don't know Last From Lennie's but will take your advice on it.

John Lindberg Trio - Give and Take (Black Saint, 1982)

Give_and_Take_(John_Lindberg_album).jpg

I hadn't realised that, not only is there another George Lewis, but there is another John Lindberg Trio. In the latter case, it is a Swedish rockabilly combo that sometimes goes by "JLT".

Really good album but I always wonder what was the cover designer thinking?!

I quite like the idea of the two trios being the same, George Lewis plays rockabilly!
