On that occasion he only played vibes, but it was his piano playing (never surpassed on the Lighthouse album IMHO) that particularly appealed to me. 22 hours ago, Peter Friedman said: Edited July 11, 2021 by BillF Quote

Jim Duckworth Posted July 11, 2021 Report Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) Thanks largely to members of this forum, I have been listening to a good deal of James P. Johnson. I am particularly taken with The New York Jazz session on here. Edit: I posted the wrong cover-should have been the 1944 James P. Johnson Classics. 2 hours ago, felser said: This was the record that introduced me to the great Belgian guitarist Rene Thomas. Edited July 11, 2021 by Jim Duckworth I made a mistaken claim. Quote
HutchFan Posted July 11, 2021 Report Posted July 11, 2021 Next up: Steve Coleman & Five Elements - World Expansion (JMT/Winter & Winter, 1987) I have the Winter & Winter reissue, but those covers are dull and repetitious -- so I'm sticking with the JMT image. Plus, the original cover does a much better job of conveying the late-80s vibe in the music.  Quote
