Agreed. Mel is missed, though Dennis Mackrel does a good job. The band is excellent and I really like Kenny Werner's chart "Bob Brookmeyer." Top-notch modern big band jazz.

Must dig that out on vinyl. From a rare picosecond back in the late 80s when Virgin got interested in jazz again. They had a similar rush to the head in the 70s with Clifford Thornton, Grachan Moncur III etc.
