jazzbo Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 Charles Mingus "Mingus at Carnegie Hall (Complete)" disc 2 Contrary to another opinion or two I think the first set is excellent. Â Quote
JSngry Posted June 14, 2021 Author Report Posted June 14, 2021 It's energetic, that's for sure. Quote

Joe Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) Â Very ECM: lovely, stately tempos, pellucid. But there's some risk-taking here. Dare I say Guidi's playing reveals a slight Mal Waldron influence? I like his harmonic imagination, whatever the case. Edited June 14, 2021 by Joe Quote
jazzbo Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 Charlie Haden "The Montreal Tapes--Gonzalo Rubalcado" Verve cd All these Montreal Tape releases are excellent. I may have to buy the Henderson one again--I can't seem to locate my copy. This piano trio is perhaps my favorite of the three piano trio releases in the series. . . but then I suspect I think that of each of the three when I play them. They are all excellent. Quote
duaneiac Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 Disc 2 of 4. I love the sound of Jo Stafford's voice. While I would not consider her a "jazz singer", she did record this very boppish Dave Lambert number in 1949 -- I wish she had explored a little more along that pathway. Quote

Dub Modal Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) Needed to break up the BN marathon and this is very different. Early 70s ECM with some real work by Andersen. Edited June 14, 2021 by Dub Modal Quote
jazzbo Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 The Visconti remixed version. A great, influential  album and a delight to hear after a long absense. Quote

I like this one best as well and was pleasantly surprised by Rubalcabas piano playing. I did not knew the guy… the version of Vignette is beautiful. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted June 14, 2021 Report Posted June 14, 2021 The Talented Mr Pelt by Jeremy Pelt (High Note, 2011) Gerald Cleaver is really very good on this mainstream date. Quote
