Usually I´m not too fond of those N.G. Jam Sessions, but this one is very very fine, because it´s not mixing musicians from different  styles,

Everybody is great here. Dizzy at the peak of his power. He still had very good chops even after he was 60. Milt Jackson is fantastic as ever, and that great tenor tandem Griff and Jaws as on so many occasions. Tommy Flanagan is wonderful, oh man that solo on Lover Come Back to me..... Nils Hennig and Mikey Roker also very very fine.

For the typical Montreux Jam Sessions this one is sure one of the very best.

I would say "I could live without it"...

Thanks for the tip.

I like some of their duo recordings a lot (Black Paladins!). Others less so.

Now listening to:

Zo-Ko-Ma by Atilla Zoller and Lee Konitz.

Happy 90th Alvin!

Alvin Lucier Still and Moving Lines of Silence in Families of Hyperbolas (part II, numbers 5-8)

W9OHSNO.jpg

I saw him once in Exeter, back in the early 00s when he was a spritely septuagenarian.  One of the most fascinating things I have seen in my life.

First met Alvin when he was in his mid-40s while working with
Bob Rauschenberg and Viola Farber (I have an interview from this time).
The last time I saw him was in 2019 wearing his "Black Lives Matter" t-shirt
and getting around in a rather difficult manner due to his Parkinson's.

Ooh. I don't know this one.

I'd rate that as not too far off Black Paladins, well worth checking out

Maria Grand - Reciprocity [Biophilia Records]

Something a bit different brought to sax/bass/drums. Interesting.

Today started off with Joe Lovano
"Tenor Legacy" Blue Note cd. Nice date with Joshua Redman sharing the front line.

Then on to an earlier Blue Note, Lee Morgan "The Cooker" on TOCJ 20 bit cd from Japan.

One helluva band with Pepper Adams, Bobby Timmons, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.

Now onto another Blue Note date (though sort of a ringer) Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland and Company "The Golden 8" Japanese Blue Note cd

It's been too long since I spun some Clarke/Boland stuff. I love the big and the small units.

Last one for the morning. Off to see my Dad. His C-Diff is back again. Sigh. Life sucks sometimes. Music is a great comfort.
