Eddie Palmieri - Vortex (TropiJazz)

Listened to this CD last night and again this morning. It's primo Palmieri.

Dave Liebman - Ceremony (Chesky)

Lieb sounds so good here, weaving through and over the rhythms laid down by this band. Special mention to Oscar Stagnaro for his filthy and scary electric bass work. His playing reminds me of Bennie Maupin's bass clarinet on Bitches Brew, the way it slithers around the the bottom of the percolating rhythms so mysteriously.

I really like this singer more and more. This is no ordinary bluesman. His band is jazzy, swings with a good groove, he has plenty of expressive capacities and vocal stylings at his disposal, and plays a nice guitar.

Made sense to play this one, same crew as "Wahoo" except Freddie Hubbard for Donald Byrd and Ron Carter for Bob Cranshaw.
