Don
Fun that Dizzy sits in on piano on some of these.
Gheorghe
I listened yesterday to "Music from Connection" and "Shades of Redd". This one was originally not issued. Maybe the reason is that some of the ensemble parts are a bit sloppy. It´s still very fine music, but not up to the high standards of the two above mentioned albums. Is this a selection of the original LPs as packaged or a box set of all the tunes from them? Those tracks with Dizzy on piano, if he really was, are classics. Rabshakeh
Herbie Hancock and Others - A Tribute To Miles (Qwest, 1992). Very surprised at how much I enjoyed this one, and even more surprised that one of my favourite aspects is Wallace Roney's playing, which, derivative as it is, still comes across as very fresh. Bluesnik
One of the most iconic BNs. I don't know if because of its cover or the personnel involved. Or because, as the liners say, it was archetypal for their sound in the late 50s.

Or because, as the liners say, it was archetypal for their sound in the late 50s. You know what's crazy about that cover? The model is wearing hose. Women do not wear hosiery any more these days, generally speaking. They gone, bare legs are what it is now. No opinion on that, but I noticed it while watching That Girl reruns, I was like, why do Ann Marie's legs look so weird, and then it hit me, oh, she's wearing hose. Frank Foster would not have written "Shiny Stockings" if he were now what he was then. Ok, he could, maybe, but not by that name.
HutchFan
Jim McNeely - From the Heart (Owl, 1985) with Marc Johnson and Adam Nussbaum I just realized that the big building on the cover is one of the Twin Towers. It's still strange to see them on records, TV shows, and such. It probably always will be.  Edited March 23, 2021 by HutchFan
