The Next Step (Verve, 2000) by Kurt Rosenwinkel, starring Mark Turner on tenor and Jeff Ballard on drums. 

This has to have one of my least favourite album covers of all time. I don't know what it is.

Just saw an astonishing fact about this LP on Wikipedia: It got 3 stars in Downbeat when it was first released.  Wow.  They missed the boat!

I'd be interested to see what the reviewer had to say about the music. Did he think it was too "out"?
