HutchFan Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 Some funky trombone colors from Raul de Souza: Cannonball sits in on a couple tracks, sounding very Arthur Blythe-ish. (Or maybe it's the other way around. ) In any case, I wish Cannonball would've played on the whole album. He would have made this excellent record even better. Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 Stumbled across this after Ethan Iverson mentioned a Hugh Lawson trio recording on that survey he did of 1970s recordings. When I saw Lawson paired with Richard Wyands at a reasonable price, it was an easy choice with my Amazon gift card. Quote
jazzcorner Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 Rather a Shorty Rogers recording IMO Quote
jazzbo Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 (edited) Wynton Kelly "Piano Interpretations" Blue Note Japan 24Bit by RVG cd (only presents the originally released material, not the 11 alternates on the US cd) Followed by Jackie McLean "Capuchin Swing" Analogue Productions SACD. This time it's the SACD. Mellower sounding than the 24Bit by RVG version. I can like them both. Edited January 4, 2021 by jazzbo Quote
