Justin V
I ordered this from DiNovi a few years ago and received it with a nice note from him. Is he the last of the '40s bebop pianists?

Yes - this is a good and under-rated Mosaic Select. I was a big fan of this band, bought all the vinyl/CDs back in the day and saw them live (it was free !! ) Stage-front listening position, my ears took a major pounding from Mr Williams’ bass pedal.. Rabshakeh
Fly or Die II: Bird Dogs of Paradise (International Anthem, 2019) by Jaimie Branch. An album from last year that seems better with each listen. Like quite a lot of recent albums it does that nice trick of adding a bit of dancehall and South American musical influences in to enhance the appeal. It has always stood out for me as yet another New Direction Miles explored. A friend of mine makes a convincing case calling this the "Prog Rock Miles Davis" album. And what also is noticably different is the recording placement of Tony and Herbie, which draws one's attention to them in part because they are usually recorded in a mirror image to the listeners' perspective. Each of these compositions are portraits in a new way in Miles' work. "Country Son" I sometimes think of as a piece reflecting Coltrane. Tony is a bit Elvin in spots and Herbie is very very "on."
