Chuck, you still have a long and exciting journey ahead... and you know it! When doing such immersion, I only skip Tanglewood and a few bits here and there... Quote

Before that, the Keyboard Players who worked for Miles were more for the Sound, not for solo playing, but Kei Akagi really is an virtuoso…. Agreed, saw him 1990 in Hamburg ... Quote

jazzbo Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 Started early this morning and am two discs into some great sound from the system today. First "Duke Ellington's Far East Suite" this the cd from the Complete RCA Recordings box set. Love this music! Followed by The inimitable and indominatable Ms Betty Carter, "I'm Yours, You're Mine" Verve cd. This cd is an almost perfect blend of great recording with great arrangements and great performances, PLUS the Carter magic mojo. Quote

That looks really interesting. Maybe I want it. Specially since I owned the album as vinyl and am now unsuccessfully looking for it as mp3. My hunch is it's too old to appear anywhere. But it was the cusp of Prince's creation in the 80s. I think he never did anything better. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 It's quite an interesting set. This was the Prince album that most excited me on release. I like a few others better since, but still have a sentimental attachment to this one. The set is a lot to digest, I'm savoring it slowly. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 Dado Moroni is one of my favorite living jazz piano players. He is unfortunately overlooked by many jazz listeners. Quote
Justin V Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) Finished: Now playing: I've taken Garrett for granted. I really enjoyed seeing him with Chick's Freedom Band years ago, yet only caught him again at last year's Detroit Jazz Festival. Maybe because he has appeared frequently at various festivals over the years, I just always assumed that I'd get to see him again. That attitude backfired on me before when I missed Mulgrew Miller. At any rate, I missed out on some shows I would've enjoyed. Edited October 6, 2020 by Justin V Quote
