Jim Duckworth Posted September 23, 2020 Report Posted September 23, 2020 Love MBRB but wasn't expecting much from this-was I ever wrong! Take away the awful vocals on 5 or 6 tunes and everything swings. Quote

Justin V Posted September 24, 2020 Report Posted September 24, 2020 (edited) Chip White - Music and Lyrics: I was reminded today to pull this one out upon learning of White's death last month. I haven't listened to it much over the years, but I am enjoying it; it's a shame that it took his passing to revisit it. A drummer/poet who writes several albums of music and lyrics is a rare breed. He brought in some heavy hitters for his recordings, too. Edited September 24, 2020 by Justin V Quote

BillF Posted September 24, 2020 Report Posted September 24, 2020 Early Eric and v nice too! More accurately should have been called Harold Mabern Quartet featuring Eric Alexander as Harold is fantastic here 27 years ago. I guess that, understandably, some of the intensity had gone in his final years. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted September 24, 2020 Report Posted September 24, 2020 (edited) Bill Dixon - Tapestries for Small Orchestra (Firehouse 12, 2019) I haven't listened to this one for a while, and I had forgotten how good it is. Five ethereal trumpets gliding over and through a swamp of bass clarinet, cello, double bass and marimba. Perhaps more work might have been done on the rather generic cover.
