Coleman Hawkins "Wrapped Tight" Impluse/Analogue Productions SACD

1c6fbde2599ac010c383caff95cc1499--colema

I saw a hawk flying through the window, and walked over to a shelf and
my eye landed on this one. Seems a great followup to the Holiday disc with excellent Ellis and Webster.

Eberhard Weber kick. The YELLOW FIELDS band with Charlie Mariano, Rainer BrĂ¼ninghaus, Jon Christensen. Found this footage on YouTube recently; shame the sound and picture are out of sync.

Despite this being one of my favorite Blakey albums, I somehow don't have its companion album.  The late Jymie Merritt is captured quite well here.  'Sleeping Dancer Sleep On' is an absolutely gorgeous tune that should be played more.

I started the listening today off with this fantastic sounding SACD, Horace Silver "The Tokyo Blues" Blue Note/Analogue Productions. This is one of the best sounding SACDs in the series

Followed by an Impulse SACD, "Salt and Pepper" Sonny Stitt and Paul Gonsalves, Analogue Productions SACD.

I think Paul should have gotten top billing on this one, his tone alone is so outstanding, and his ideas pull me in.

Now on to a less great sounding disc but a great performance, Cannonball Adderley Quintet, "Inside Straight" on OJC cd.

My Mingus-mania continues. This one is really a milestone in Mingus´ outstanding career.

My absolute favorite Mingus (which is saying a ton), and a desert island disc for me.

Andrew Rathbun - Shadow Forms (Steeplechase). Rathbun on reeds, George Garzone on tenor, Scott Lee on bass & Jeff Hirshfield on drums. Interesting post bop date. I was able to see this band live at a "CD release party" show and they were better live. :)
