duaneiac Posted March 8, 2020 Report Posted March 8, 2020 A thoroughly enjoyable compilation, although including Lionel Hampton as a "singer" is certainly stretching the boundaries of that word's meaning. If you've never heard "Bon Bon" -- and likely few of the folks frequenting this board spend hours spinning Jan Savitt records -- then give this a listen. Wow! This is some superbly fluid scat singing. More about Bon Bon, Jan Savitt and this particular recording can be found here. Quote

Justin V Posted March 9, 2020 Report Posted March 9, 2020 I found this while boxing up some CDs and don't know how I got it or if I ever listened to it. I've long meant to check out her music, so this was a nice surprise. Quote
HutchFan Posted March 9, 2020 Report Posted March 9, 2020 Now: Don Patterson, Booker Ervin, Houston Person - Legends of Acid Jazz: Just Friends (Prestige) Just picked up this CD recently. The cuts with Booker Ervin are terrific. No surprise, I guess. Earlier: Sonny Stitt - Endgame Brilliance (32 Jazz) Originally released as two Cobblestone LPs: Tune-Up! and Constellation This Sonny Stitt 2-fer CD is the subject of today's entry on my 70s jazz blog. Justin V Posted March 9, 2020 Report Posted March 9, 2020 I have around 30 Ellington discs and still feel like a neophyte. I've grown so used to Mosaic sets that a two-disc set feels bite-sized. At any rate, this has been getting played frequently. Quote
