Eddie Palmieri - Palmas (Nonesuch, 1994)

Donald Harrison, Brian Lynch, and Conrad Herwig are the featured horn soloists here.

Two years later, Palmieri and Lynch would participate in this excellent Conrad Herwig leader date .... :

Played around with tubes in my main system today. The change that stuck is I put a six pack of Sylvania 6922 in the ZTPRE and a pair of orange labeled Amperex 7308 in the Monoblocks. Nice speedy but rich sound.

Listened to
"Bill Evans Trio Live" Verve (from the Complete Verve Recordings box set, disc 5)

Great, I always perferred the records where Bud has the opportunity to play with congenial horn players. This with Don Byas, others with Hawk in Germany, with Griffin in Edenville (a bit marred by the weak drumming), and again Byas-Idrees Suleiman on "Americans in Europe".

I like the sound that Marty Ehrlich makes on alto -- or any instrument, really.  I suppose it says something that his voice doesn't change from instrument to instrument.  It's just him.  ... He's managed to carve out a niche, his own distinct thing, I think.
