jazzbo
Played around with tubes in my main system today. The change that stuck is I put a six pack of Sylvania 6922 in the ZTPRE and a pair of orange labeled Amperex 7308 in the Monoblocks. Nice speedy but rich sound. Listened to "Bill Evans Trio Live" Verve (from the Complete Verve Recordings box set, disc 5) Miles Davis "Workin'" JVC XRCD Japan (in LP facsimile packaging) "Coltrane '58 the Prestige Recordings" cd box set, disc 1 Maucha Adnet "The Jobim Songbook"

This with Don Byas, others with Hawk in Germany, with Griffin in Edenville (a bit marred by the weak drumming), and again Byas-Idrees Suleiman on "Americans in Europe". HutchFan
I like the sound that Marty Ehrlich makes on alto -- or any instrument, really. I suppose it says something that his voice doesn't change from instrument to instrument. It's just him. ... He's managed to carve out a niche, his own distinct thing, I think.
