Based on samples, I'd really like the one with Stitt, but that costs a minimum of $45. Ordered the Pepper-Stitt from Omnivore at a very reasonable price. Also found a copy of "Among Friends" at Half-Price Books today. Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 27, 2019 Report Posted December 27, 2019 Lovely Chet Baker vocal, fine work from pianist Phil Markowitz: Quote

Gheorghe Posted December 27, 2019 Report Posted December 27, 2019 Got this from my wife for Chrismas ! I must admit I was not so familiar with Kenton´s work and this here is most welcome. So I dug into it. Great band, great arrangements and very fine solos. Huge brass sound, a lot of percussion work . Quote

jazzbo Posted December 27, 2019 Report Posted December 27, 2019 Back now to Hank Mobley "Thinking of Home" from the new Mobley set from Mosaic Records. I really like the compositions on this one. The concept and the compositions really mesh well. I get caught up in the feeling in the music and the interesting grooves. Quote
HutchFan Posted December 27, 2019 Report Posted December 27, 2019 First spin of this new-to-me CD: Nicholas Payton - Sonic Trance (Warner Bros, 2003) Really digging this, so far. Quote
