Gheorghe
First I heard the wonderful ballad album of Trane with Johnny Hartman, and then, thinking about "Village Vanguard Again" (Trane with Pharoah) I decided to spin only Pharoah. Joe
Sounds surprisingly like late 90s Stereolab at time (if you will pardon that anachronism).

duaneiac
A good compilation disc which succeeds on two fronts: it introduced me to some new music/musicians way back when and it still holds up today as simply an enjoyable listening experience. The MJQ + Almeida track sounds just about how you might expect, and to me, that's delightful. The Hank Crawford track might not have been my first choice as a representative example of his work (the strings here are pretty syrupy), but that's okay. Clarence Wheeler & The Enforcers? I still don't know who they were and the sample of their music here is a groovy flashback to 1970, but ultimately forgettable. Joe Zawinul is always some one I tell myself, "I gotta look into his music more one day", but that day has never really come for me. I'm kind of surprised there is no Coltrane or Herbie Mann here. Granted, they were both included on Vol. 1 (as were most of the musicians on this disc), but they were probably the two most important record sellers on the Atlantic roster and that alone would seem to have merited inclusion here. Shrdlu
Joe's recordings for Milestone are excellent. There is a lot of variety. "We had everything but a hit.", wailed Orrin Keepnews in the notes. A favorite track is "Lazy Afternoon", with 'Erbie 'Ancock and Ron Cartair. Dan Gould
That's the most horrifying pile of crap remake/remix/whatever I've had the misfortune of hearing. How about this instead:
JSngry
I'm kinda of the thought that there can be no bad versions of "96 Tears". I mean, c'mon, it's one of the most glorious pieces of garbage ever, and GIGO! But GLORIOUS!
