jazzbo Posted November 29, 2019 Report Posted November 29, 2019 (edited) Been doing a lot of "comparative" listening this week, listening to different editions of the same title to decide which to keep and which to cull from the collection. Some fun, some tedium. Today I didn't get to do any listening and then all of a sudden my wife said "I want to hear some Nat King Cole." Well my favorite Cole is the trio stuff but I know she doesn't like that, so I put on this "Pure Audio" Blu-ray Audio and she's digging it--big band stuff with that big baritone voice. . . . Realy nice 24/192 sound as well. Nat King Cole, Universal "Pure Audio" Blu-ray Audio disc, "The Extraordinary" Nat King Cole. Edited November 29, 2019 by jazzbo Quote
Larry Kart Posted November 29, 2019 Report Posted November 29, 2019 Includes a particularly lovely version of "Stairway to the Stars." Nice band too: Illinois Jacquet, Hank Jones, either Kenny Burrell or Jim Hall, Milt Hinton, and Elvin Jones. Quote

gdogus Posted November 30, 2019 Report Posted November 30, 2019 (edited) Wayne Shorter, Night Dreamer (Blue Note,1964) - with Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, Elvin Jones. Always wondered why Tyner was relegated to "etc." on the front cover... Edited November 30, 2019 by gdogus Quote
Gheorghe Posted November 30, 2019 Report Posted November 30, 2019 Fantastic Ornette Coleman, after decades again with the Original Quartet and the great Prime Tune. Some tunes are played as by the quartet as by Prime Time, which is particularly interesting. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 30, 2019 Report Posted November 30, 2019 (edited) Seem to have picked up my first bad cold of the year and so I've been banned to the upstairs and get to listen to some music. I have the seventeenth disc of the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve" going ("From Left to Right" and extra material), which is "easy listening" in so many ways, which is nice for me right now as I need to take it easy. . . . JSngry Posted November 30, 2019 Author Report Posted November 30, 2019 Seems like flat transfers, but the music is pretty fine. Quote
