Justin V
Rolf Billberg - Rare Danish Recordings By a Swedish Jazz Legend: I hadn't listened to this in years and am enjoying it. Without this compilation, I may have never discovered Billberg.

A Wonderful collection : I never can get enough live versions of "Don´t Stop the Carneval", here´s a very fine one. And what really knocked me out was the 1979 live Version of Disco Monk. Though Rollins got bad reviews for that tune when it appeared on the album "Don´t Ask" from the same year, this one if great, and Mark Soskin is a great piano player and really cooks on this. I heard that tight unit Rollins with Mark Soskin, Jerome Harris and Al Foster live in the same year.

Fly [Mark Turner, Jeff Ballard, Larry Grenadier] (Savoy, 2004) Way too much bass in that recording. They should have toned it down. But excellent music. Justin V
My daughter often joins in clapping after songs when listening to live albums. I don't know how well known Hedges is, but clarinet fans should check him out.

Bass (and drums) are more prominent in the mix than what you'd normally hear -- but I assumed that was a deliberate decision. Like they were making a "rhythm record" rather than a "sax plus rhythm record" -- if that makes any sense. Of course, de gustibus . . . NP: Ravi Coltrane - From the Round Box (RCA Victor) I really like this one. There's something floating and elusive about it. Everyone plays beautifully, but Geri Allen brings something extra to the table.
