jazzbo Posted October 2, 2019 Report Posted October 2, 2019 Duduka Da Fonseca & Helio Alves "Samba Jazz – Tom Jobim" A very nice tribute album to Jobim that has Maucah Adnet on vocals for about half, a big plus for me. Followed by: Miles Davis "Directions" disc 1, the cd version from the Complete Columbia Albums box set. Quote

Justin V Posted October 2, 2019 Report Posted October 2, 2019 Terry Gibbs - Feelin' Good: Live in the Studio: A fun album I hadn't listened to in a while. I think I am going to be pulling out more Gibbs today. Quote
Justin V Posted October 2, 2019 Report Posted October 2, 2019 Clifford Jordan - Hyde Park After Dark (from the Bee Hive Mosaic), with Von Freeman, Cy Touff, Norman Simmons, Victor Sproles and Wilbur Campbell. An inspired lineup with thoughtful arrangements by Simmons. There is not a single dud on the Mosaic. Quote

I would love to have heard the Ellington band, with either Paul Gonsalves or Johnny Hodges as soloist, play "Ruby, My Dear". Quote

JSngry Posted October 2, 2019 Author Report Posted October 2, 2019 This is the True Believers at their very finest. I will forever on the whole be a Skeptic, but a record like this can quite pleasurably suspend that disbelief. Either way, though, these people came to play, no bullshit here at all, and really, at some point that's all that counts. Whether that point is before or after is an entirely personal consideration. Hell yeah. btw - I LOVE Dee Baton's drumming for that band. Play Or Die! Quote
