HutchFan Posted September 6, 2019 Report Posted September 6, 2019 Duke Ellington - Soul Call (Verve) Verve Master Edition with bonus tracks Oh man, "La Plus Belle Africaine"!!! Lamb and Carney are great, but Jimmy Hamilton is the one who really gets me. Quote
Shrdlu Posted September 6, 2019 Report Posted September 6, 2019 Jimmy was a superb clarinet player. His sound, soaring over the orchestra, is a highlight of an Ellington performance. It is odd that he went for a Benny Goodman sound on the clarinet, but had a lush sound on the tenor saxophone. Quote

Yes, it's a stark contrast between his two instruments, isn't it?!? Now playing: James Moody - Never Again! (Muse, 1972) with Mickey Tucker on organ Moody had such a distinctive and soulful sound. I could listen all day and never get tired of it. Quote
