jazzbo Posted August 19, 2019 Report Posted August 19, 2019 Listened to a 24/192 file (via DVD-R) of Hank Mobley's "Soul Station." Sounds good, but this album ALWAYS sounds good. Followed by Antonio Carlos Jobim "Tide" Japanese Verve cd. Quote

Bluesnik Posted August 19, 2019 Report Posted August 19, 2019 A wonderful disc. With Joseph Reinhardt et son ensemble playing a wonderful version of Sweet Georgia Brown titled Douce Georgette. I read in the liners that under the nazis Jewish and American songs were forbidden, but they put a slight veil on them, a different title and played them anyway. To much success. They also point out that during the war the musicians had a lot of work. Something that seems contradictious. Quote

EKE BBB Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 (edited) I dislike the diva character and the blurb around her, but I still can enjoy the music, in small doses. Edited August 20, 2019 by EKE BBB Quote

As a blind man he was, of course, excused the military service that took many others off the scene. Now playing: Quote
