duaneiac Posted August 6, 2019 Report Posted August 6, 2019 This has got to be the best $1.99 I ever spent. A remarkable recording made to celebrate Bill Henderson's 81st birthday and he was in excellent form that night. I saw him perform about a year later and he was still incredible then. It's too bad he never got the late career resurgence/attention that say, Shirley Horn or Ernie Andrews enjoyed. Quote

Talk about a hole in my collection! I'll have to rectify that, maybe with that solo date, which I didn't previously know about. Now playing: Ray Drummond - Camera in a Bag: Coincidentally, I think that the last time I saw Drummond was with Harris and Leroy Williams in Detroit. I wish that I could have seen the whole set because the trio was in fine form. Drummond had a string of excellent leader dates. This one has 'Fathead' Newmam, Steve Nelson, Kenny Barron and Marvin 'Smitty' Smith. Quote
EKE BBB Posted August 6, 2019 Report Posted August 6, 2019 1958 starts with yet another landmark studio recording by Sonny Rollins piano-less trio: Followed by another of my personal favs: Quote
