This was my first Bird collection many years ago.

That’s a decent Bird set! I bought a cheap used copy a few years ago when I was commuting two and a half hours for four days a week—made for great car listening.

Dipping right now into one of the many Black Saint/Soul Note sets that arrived last week:

I still do not get Morgana King, not even sortakinda a little, not even appreciate-if-not-actually-like. Not ever. That's gonna have to be somebody else.

But this record has really great soft-MOR-psych charts by Jimmy Haskell. I just wish he had done them for another record for another singer. Like, if Joni Mitchell was on a career path in 1968 to make this/this kind of record, that would have been SO good. But...life does not work like that, then or now.

King is not a favorite of mine -- mannered in several ways at once -- but I don't get why she'd be a total turn off.

I dunno either. If I could figure it out, I could at least appreciate her, and that's something I have no interest in.. But let me try - no low notes, no sense of the lyrics maybe once in a while actually being real, rather than melodrama, notes bent the wrong way/for the wrong reasons...you name it. And a vibrato that makes me want to...do something not good. Exactly what, I can't say.

She's got good pitch, though, if that counts for anything other than having good pitch.

that second one, that's not at all a bad song, but....gag.

Gagging is a reflex, just sayin'.

The Armstrong looks like it must be a nice one.

This one is really a treasure ! They sound wonderful together, and I think it was the only occasion Dannie Richmond (one of my favourite drummers) recorded for BN.

Yes, Sony used a European cover for this release; it's better known in the US with this cover;
