Dan Gould Posted May 14, 2019 Report Posted May 14, 2019 Nice video of Bill Doggett with Bubba Brooks and by the youtube comments, the drummer also played with the Dave Matthews band? Nice description of how Honky Tonk came about in the last interview segment - and really, did anyone ever tell Bill that his rug looked ridiculous? Quote

Peter Friedman Posted May 14, 2019 Report Posted May 14, 2019 The first 4 tracks feature a quartet, Blakey with Henry Durant on tenor, Horace Silver, & Percy Heath. This is the only time I have heard, or heard of Henry Durant? Wonder what happened to him? The remaining 8 tracks have some especially fine playing from Joe Gordon and Gigi Gryce. 7 of the 8 tunes are Gryce compositions. Many of them deserve to be played far more often. Quote

Listening to. very early Japanese Prestige cd. Followed by This excellent Kenny Burrell session. I always forget how good this one is. "Midnight Blue," Platinum SHM-SACD from Blue Note Japan. Quote
