Joel Ross “Who are You?” Blue Note cd

Ross is one of my favorite “new” artists. His music is different and yet also within the tradition–his writing reminds me of that by Joe Chambers.

Followed by

Arturo O’Farrill “Live in Brooklyn” Zoho cd

A trio date with Andy Gonzalez on bass. I’m really enjoying revisiting O’Farrill recordings.

Cold weather again. . . at least this morning. Ye olde dachshund Fiona is not pleased. I’m warming up with some Monk’s music.

Frank Kimbraugh “Monk’s Dream–The Compositions of Thelonious Monk” 6 cd set, disc 5

This is a fascinating set. Very true to Monk, yet its own thing, and Scott Robinson in particular shows how amazing his gift is for anything with a reed at the end.

Duke Ellington “Centennial Edition: Complete RCA Victor Recordings: 1927-1973” disc 21

This disc has the “Far East Suite” in great sound.
