Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else (Blue Note). I'm spinning the SHM-CD (TYCJ-81002) that has two bonus tracks, including an alternate of "Autumn Leaves". I think this CD sounds very good and I find myself playing it more often than the MFSL gold CD and the AP SACD.

Tina Brooks' BN records are all worth hearing. Such a short but brilliant career, so glad BN released the rest.

Black History month can't go by until you hear the local Cleveland news finally recognizing Albert Ayler, who was one of the last featured Black people showcased here in February.

Donald Ayler should be noted too, I met him at CIA during a screening of a doc on the avant guard back in 2003 or so. In my opinion, learning the trumpet so quickly to add to Ayler's sound, shows his devotion to his brother. Not polished by any stretch, but he's there, and the whole Impulse! fiasco lead to both of their demises. Sad.

Now playing:

Met Lester Bowie, who was a guest lecturer at a jazz seminar I was taking (couldn't believe it, I skipped that class all the time, except this one). We had this great convo about how I heard elements of Chopin and other impressionist composers in his playing, which he seemed to appreciate.  Deep dude. Sorely missed.

For Lester. My favorite ECM by AEC:
