Is that the first issue of that record?

No - the first issue was part of a 16  2/3 RPM series Prestige tried for a while. It was on one side and a George Wallington date was on the other. I first got the date in the late '60s when it was issued on Status, a budget line. I now have it on a Japanese K2 cd,

👍 That's a good one. All his Blue Notes (3, I think) are good.

This 6 track CD was made specifically for radio broadcast, none of this music has been included on CDs by either artist.

I don't recall our station ever receiving a copy of it, unless the PD kept it. He usually passed on releases like this to me.

There’s a promise of near freezing weather today–hope it materializes. It’s thirteen right now.

Started off this morning with “Sweet Tooth” by Mali Obomsawin, a thoroughly modern loudish cd that is a good test for my newest upgade to the system, and intriguing music.

And now I’m spinning another disc that will help with assessment of the changes, Mark Turner “In this World.”

No, we're just having the fiercest weather here in about a decade, and my wife and I are trying to conserve energy and it is cooler here in the house, and my dog is deaf and blind and finding ways to get her out and about in the morning is challenging. Just on my mind and I decide to converse about it bit. On another forum other American and Canadian posters join in as they are experiencing unusually cold weather. Doesn't influence what I choose to play, just what I tend to say.

I see.

Well, in my case it is even possible that the weather, more so the anotimp influences something:

It was a beautiful spring night when I first heard one of my first Idols Charles Mingus, so if there is such a night in April I might have Mingus in my head or if I´m off, I´d spin it.

And it was a beautiful night in september, still warm, and I heard for the first time Max Roach, so September might be a month I start with thouts about Max Roach.

Freezing weather is a challenge for me, since I like those really warm nights, where you can get out and the town doesn´t sleep, all kinds of dudes on the streets, and the gals don´t wear long jeans any more....

I really enjoy this CD. I play it fairly often.

Mingus in April makes sense, he was born in April and played a few tunes with April in the title. He talks about April in his autobiography if I remember correctlu.

I am hardly ever out in the evening/night, I get up so early for several reasons that I retire earlier than many. Besides, I live out in the hills in the country at the edge of a forest and to travel to where there is night life is a good part of an hour. . . not worth it for me, and my wife is not into it either. So it's daytime weather that impacts me. We're having a heavy snowfall winter for the tirst time in several which I am enjoying because it gives ll these trees a lovely costume--otherwise there are acres and acres of bare trees and that gets to me.

Also I think I'm used to talking/writing about the weather a bit because a) we do get four distinct seasons and varying weather within them, that does cause the weather to rise to your consciousness and b) when I first returned from Africa I felt completely out of place and needed some sort of small talk openings to get to know and understand conversations with peers and adults. . . talking about the weather was always a good opener. I notice that I am falling back on that of late, not sure why.

Right now

A 28 degree morning! For some reason ye olde dachshund let me slumber an extra two hours or so. Wow. I feel groggy!

Starting off with Wynton Marsalis Quartet “Live at Blues Alley” Columbia 2 cd set, disc 1

It’s been a long time since I spun this one. Marcus Roberts really impresses, as always.

Another one I haven’t spun in some time. Ah, Ellington. I used to not pay enough attention to late Ellington. I’ve learned the error of my ways.

Interesting! For me it was Blanton Webster era material on Smithsonian LPs.

I'd heard a bunch of Ellington -- but the stuff that made the EKE light bulb come on for me was the late-30s band.  Particularly music from 1937:  "Azure," "Solitude," "Caravan," and other cuts.
