Bobby Hutcherson 'Classic Blue Note Sessions' Mosaic set, CD2 - 'Dialogue' and 'Components'.

The sonics of this set give the Tone Poet LPs a serious run for their money, to my ears.

And how do they both compare to the 1st press LPs which I expect you also have?

I have a 'Dialogue' and I'm flirting with a 'Components' but I could buy the Mosaic and have change, but no lovely LP ans sleeve to hold...

I do have good original LPs of both of those titles - and the Tone Poet of 'Dialogue'. Not played them for a while but it is swings and roundabouts I think. There would likely be higher fidelity but possibly at the expense of somebsurface noise. At the end of the day it will probably depend on your LP and/or CD playback equipment but what I am finding with the Mosaic is that it is more than adequate and noise-wise dead quiet. A great set - the people who gave taken over CD mastering at Mosaic are doing a brilliant job.

I have seen Benny Golson very often live. His early compositions are great. Maybe he is not really my idea of a soloist on Saxophone, maybe the sound, maybe his phrasing, but to have a horn player with THAT Rhythmsection, I think I´d listen to it somewhere.

But listenig to a simple tune like Billies Bounce or more even, Now´s the time so many times one after the other, is just torture for me. I have a Prestige album of Wardell Gray that also has so may tracks.
