Gheorghe Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago One of my favourite tenor players here in Austria is Ray Aichinger, who´s sound is quite similar to Hank Mobley´s. I always enjoy to hear him live and this is his latest album. Most of the tunes are originals by himself and by the Brooklyn born trumpet player Mark Osterer, really catchy tunes, most of them boogaloo. My favourites here is "Old Man and Seagull", "Oide Donau" (Old Danube), and the wonderful fast samba "Flight of the Tucan"....... Quote
Rabshakeh Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Nir Felder - III A nice example of amiable populist guitar jazz that is pretty creative, recommended by someone on the board last night. Felder has some unique ideas. It feels a bit out of its own time, sadly. Quote

Somehow it has this sentimental edge for me, so, it feels very much like music made by someone who grew up in the 90s just like me.... Discovered him on the Smalls streaming page at some point in 2010 or so and have been following his activities aince Quote

It slots in nicely with the likes of Scofield or Metheny without sounding at all like them. Quote

Great record, if I just want to hear some swingin stuff just to relax. 27 minutes ago, EKE BBB said: Very nice and so easy to identify each of them. I´m less familiar with Zoot Sims and Al Cohn than with Trane and Mobley, but both sound nice. Zoot is a bit more boppish and Al Cohn likes to bend notes, it was kinda trademark of him, I saw him live once with Woody Herman and he is easily to recognize. Never saw Zoot and I think I heard him only on the Miles Davis and Horns, and on Bud Powell in Paris at the Blue Note. Hank Mobley, what a shame: Now everybody is talking about him, and when I heard all the surviving greats when the came an increased interest of acoustic jazz, and Dexter and Griffin could return to the States, Mobley was "a forgotten man". What a shame. Quote
jazzbo Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Another Blue Note. I was surprised lately to read on two forums that this one is not that well-liked. I’ve always liked it in the various editions I’ve had, and love the sound of this SHM-SACD release from last year. bobby Hutcheson “San Francisco” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary SHM-SACD Quote
