It's on Spotify and You Tube.

The arrangements are all on the syrupy side to one extent or the other, so there's that. But Getz never sounds disengaged, and always seems fully engaged in playing inside the chart rather than over it. I like that approach a lot.

Contains the (to this point) last readily available recordings of Rollins pre-Bidge sabbatical. Very revealing, in that regardless of how much he may or may not have been thrown of by Coltrane ,(and Ornette) it shows that ultimately he took the time off because, in his words, he wasn't yet "good enough". 

It's humbling to think about that, and at the time it must have seemed like a perverse notion, but comparing his playing before and after, it's clear to me what he was talking about.

Still, there is some "in the zone" playing here. Not all but some. Some!

I posted it yesterday when I heard the first CD. 

This night the second CD. 

Again: The best Sonny Rollins I ever heard which is near to the level I enjoyed on his live performances. 

But......in mod evident there is not much love here for Sonny when he was no more a Twen or around 30, but from his later forties on.....
I like that kind of Sonny Rollins most. Never heard better Calypsos than here Carnaval and St. Tomaas, and on Swingtunes like Isnt she Lovely and Moritate he swings like the way, most of you who love the old bebop Sonny rollins might be delightet.

Kai Winding ‘Rainy Day’ Verve Japan cd

I bought this on a whim and because it was cheap and because I like Kai.

Kai arranged this with a singing group and boy it’s a mid-sixties idea of mod hip jazz. Less interesting than but probably inspired by McFarland’s work. Fun listen overall, but not quite enough crackers to go with the cheese. . . . Probably not a surprise that the tracks without the vocal group are the best. Nice sound to warm up the stereo with though.
