Now if I hear it, I like some tracks, I think there is also with Howard McGhee, but I fear after some tracks I get tired of that kind of music..... Quote
jazzbo Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 Starting off with the next to the last disc in the fantastic box set, “Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions” from Mosaic Records. Man. . . this music is so great and the recordings so rich and full sounding. I’ve always loved these Jimmy Rushing sessions. And they have never sounded better. Disc VI! [IMG]377×500 43.1 KB Quote

Peter Friedman Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 The early Lee Morgan albums on Blue Note are perhaps my favorite recordings from him. I hear a "purity" in his trumpet solos that show the strong link to Clifford Brown. This album has some fine alto solos by Clarence Sharpe, and a sterling rhythm section of Horace Silver, Wilbur Ware and Philly Joe Jones. As almost always, the piano solos by Horace are simply a delight. Quote
