What's that? I like the cover. The group title makes me suspicious if it's contemporary but interested if not

Tom Harrell - Form (Contemporary, 1990)
with a killer band: Joe Lovano, Danilo Perez, Charlie Haden & Paul Motian

The Charlie Haden/Paul Motian rhythm backbone quite impressive here ....

Art Pepper - Tokyo Debut (Galaxy, rec. 1977)
On this tour, Pepper was backed by Cal Tjader's band -- with Clare Fischer, Poncho Sanchez, a.o.  Tjader also sits on three cuts.

It was contemporary at the time? It is a self-published big band record to from 1981, close-ish to early George Russell maybe. Definitely worth streaming.

Interesting, thanks.

What I really meant is that if a current group was choosing that name they were likely hitching to a bandwagon.

Had a nice visit from and dinner with my wife’s niece and her family from my old stomping grounds, Austin. Another warmer morning, still, quiet, with a hungry dachshund and some great swinging music.

“Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions” Mosaic Records 7 cd set, disc V

Fantastic music! A session led by Jo Jones, and one led by Jimmy Rushing.
