Sounds lovely Chuck. Is it a boxed set? Quote
Pim Posted November 23 Report Posted November 23 These Free America Series were among the first Freejazz albums I bought when I was in my teens. Beautiful packaging! Instill consider Free Huey as a modern free jazz classic. Quote
Pim Posted November 23 Report Posted November 23 last one for tonight. Beautiful soundtrack for a movie I’ve never seen. Quote

It doesn't sound like it would be run of the mill but I don't recall hearing other music from around the same time that sounds like this. As I recall it was well received. I believe it received a high rating in Downbeat - 5 stars perhaps (if that means anything). I certainly enjoyed it when I bought it. I was much more into Tyner's music then than I have been lately, though it still sounds good IMO. Now: Quote
scooter_phx Posted November 23 Report Posted November 23 How about some Count Basie? Go here on Youtube... from 1976 - two sets. Quote

Been diving into some Tyner lately and didn't realize that Asante was held for 4 years before being released, and released right around the time of Trident and his other Milestones. No idea if Asante was well received either but listening to it from the perspective of it being from 1970 is kind of a shock, at least to me, and a good one at that. Quote

jazzbo Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 Another cold morning with rain. Sigh. Gotta get used to the rain, we’re getting so much. Starting off with the “Round Midnight” soundtrack on Columbia cd. The sound from this French studio is quite interesting! Quote
jazzbo Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 On to this 2 cd set released Friday, “Forces Of Nature: Live At Slug’s” on Blue Note, listed with McCoy Tyner and Joe Henderson as co-leaders. Quote

Pim Posted November 24 Report Posted November 24 lovely underrated spiritual Freejazz gem on Baystate. Unfortunate Ruff didn’t make a lot more records except his few appearances as a sideman. Quote
