Pim
These Free America Series were among the first Freejazz albums I bought when I was in my teens. Beautiful packaging! Instill consider Free Huey as a modern free jazz classic.

It doesn't sound like it would be run of the mill but I don't recall hearing other music from around the same time that sounds like this. As I recall it was well received. I believe it received a high rating in Downbeat - 5 stars perhaps (if that means anything). I certainly enjoyed it when I bought it. I was much more into Tyner's music then than I have been lately, though it still sounds good IMO. Now:

Been diving into some Tyner lately and didn't realize that Asante was held for 4 years before being released, and released right around the time of Trident and his other Milestones. No idea if Asante was well received either but listening to it from the perspective of it being from 1970 is kind of a shock, at least to me, and a good one at that. jazzbo
Another cold morning with rain. Sigh. Gotta get used to the rain, we’re getting so much. Starting off with the “Round Midnight” soundtrack on Columbia cd. The sound from this French studio is quite interesting!

Pim
lovely underrated spiritual Freejazz gem on Baystate. Unfortunate Ruff didn’t make a lot more records except his few appearances as a sideman.
