Duke Jordan has long been a strong jazz piano favorite of mine. His playing is very identifiable, which is not the case for a large number of other jazz piano players. I am a big fan of Duke Jordan, not only for his wonderful playing, but also his many terrific compositions. Johnson, Donald Lambert, Willie The Lion Smith, Earl Hines or Art Tatum, but, in my view, there ain’t a 2cd compilation of classic jazz piano (+stride) of such astounding perfection. While I seldom listen to what may be called "free jazz", I will say that this is a marvelous set. The music is not "conservative" in any way, but it should appeal to a wide range of jazz listeners.
