You know THIS ???? How comes ?

Fritz Novotny was a good friend of mine and I remember the year when Pannonian Flower came out, and I heard several tapes of different versions (live) at Fritz´ place.
One of the most impressive moments was when the trio performed with Burton Green on piano. And everybody who knows Burton Green knows he is one of Monk´s greatest fans.
So there was a musical deal:  They performed "Pannonian Flower", and on Burton´s suggestion "Crepuscule with Nellie".

Not 100% sure. I am a recommendation hound and tend to pick up these things.

I like Novotny and I do look out for anything with his name on it.

I acquired this music when it was first released in the 50's. It was among my first West Coast Jazz recordings. The arrangements and solos are terrific.

Very much a Spotify pressing.

It is fantastic. I can only imagine how it must have been to be the first hip hop DJ to get his/her hands on it. Like finding the ark of the covenant.

I have it on a Collectibles CD, but I've never found the vinyl.  I wonder if the streaming version comes from a better source.  There are fleeting instances of tape dropout on the Collectibles, suggesting that it was lifted from a less-than-ideal source. I don't think it was mastered from vinyl, though.

You seem to be revisiting my 90s listening list recently. Ehrlich made some great recordings around then.

It's really one of the best. I missed him at his height and am only really exploring him properly now.

This is the one that I spin most often:

Have you checked out the Dark Woods Ensemble? Some great music, austere to joyous if I remember correctly

This could get me searching my CD shelves...

I really like Emergency Peace.

Yes, I just looked and failed to find that on my shelves. Maybe a victim of a clear out in the last 20 years
