jazzbo
Miles Davis “Miles in Berlin” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 Japan 2023. Disc 1. This appears to be a reissue of the 2005 mastering that featured the addition of “Stella By Starlight.” This was the first official release of the Quintet with Wayne Shorter. A magnificent concert, my favorite being “Autumn Leaves.” Edited November 23, 2023 by jazzbo

jazzbo
I guess I’m thankful for Miles. He led me to green pastures of jazz. Miles Davis “Miles Davis at Fillmore” Blu-Spec cd, 2 cd set, Sony Japan. Dave Holland on electric bass or contrabass violin was a real trailblazer during his time with Miles–just what he needed and man he delivered. I think I was more moved by this album than I was when Bitches Brew came out - either that or I just kept getting overwhelmed with each release. I do remember, as a youngster, almost always crying during certain sections of this because I just couldn't imagine that what I was hearing was actually being performed live. Peak times were during "Friday..." and "Saturday Miles."

Yes, this, after hearing "Filles" and being blown away was the next one that just grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. Still doesn't. Edits and all it just is music that holds my attention and feeds my imagination, even today, fifty years later.
rostasi
All of it - all of it, really. I think my 12 year old ears just kept taking in all of those sounds chronologically thru the vinyl - and then compounded by the fact that the sides kept getting longer - except when it got to Saturday with that long atonal beginning section. Speechless. Anyway, many copies plowed thru - much to the chagrin of family members - using headphones while clattering behind a trap drum set much of the time. It's time to revisit... ghost of miles
… highly recommended, though I’m guessing many posters here are already familiar with it. I remember in my early days of Bud fandom either reading or being advised that this and the Xanadu Bud In Paris were prime examples of later-period Powell in outstanding form. And love hearing Coleman Hawkins and Powell together on the final four tracks. Edited November 24, 2023 by ghost of miles
