Gheorghe Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 To me, Monk and Trane are the masters. That´s some of the best acoustic jazz from the old period, that I heard. And both Monk and Trane are in top form. Both Monk, both Trane maybe are some of the most fascinating listening experiences of the last century. The only downer is that the drums is not so well recorded. Quote

jazzbo Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 Carmen McRae “Velvet Soul” Laserlight cd Pairs two Sonny Lester produced LPs on Groove Merchant from the early 'seventies. Carmen in pure jazz settings. . . can’t beat that. She was a master. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 Anthony Braxton - György Szabados - Vladimir Tarasov – Triotone First listen to this one, which I find quite underwhelming. Quote
Pim Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 Hope has fascinated me from the first time I heard him play on Informal Jazz, which I now think of as his least interesting record . This solo outing is amazing really highlighting every aspect of his playing: he does some bop, a little stride, a hint of classical music here and there. A lovely 40 minute journey Elmo deserves a Mosaic! Quote

In my opinion very good but I am no expert in that field. I’ve got all of their albums and this is a favorite. It’s on Spotify and I am curious how you feel about it. jazzbo Posted October 28, 2023 Report Posted October 28, 2023 A few compilations of material I already have were in a lot of Carmen McRae cds I bought from eBay (cheap). This one really does sound good and is nicely selected and sequenced. Quote
