jazzbo Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 (edited) Now another album of Jobim songs by Camila Benson. She seems a good guitarist as well as a nice laid-back singer. She shares the arrangements here with Ryo Kawasaki. Camila "Wave--from the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim" I never tire of Jobim's music. My father loved it too. . . I have memories of the two of us sitting together many times letting his music wash over us. There's so much beauty and a sort of pleasant sadness in the music. Edited August 20, 2023 by jazzbo Quote

HutchFan Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 Some Sunday afternoon Brazilian jazz: Moacir Santos - Maestro (Blue Note, 1972) with a bunch of West Coast heavies, including Oscar Brashear, Frank Rosolino, Don Menza, Clare Fischer, Joe Pass, and John Heard and Baden Powell - Canto on Guitar (MPS/BASF, 1971) Superb. Intimate, dream-like, and intoxicating. Quote

mikeweil Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 Played this twice today. I love this album. It shows what a great tenor saxist Eddie Harris was. Quote
HutchFan Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 Still in a Brazilian bag. Now re-listening to this album by the Quarteto Em Cy, a four-sister harmony singing group: Quarteto Em Cy - S/T (Odeon/Elemental, 1972) Among the many musicians backing them are all three members of the Tamba Trio: Luiz Eça, Bebeto, and Hélcio Milito. Eric Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 This is fantastic. Under 40 minutes, taut. Antoine Roney (best I have ever heard from him) and James Hurt are sharp. Quote
HutchFan Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 I've been bitten pretty hard by the Baden Powell bug. I feel a listening bender coming on. Streaming this now: Os Afro Sambas de Baden [Powell] e Vinícius [De Moraes] (Forma BR, 1966) with the Quarteto em Cy And earlier: Baden Powell - S/T (Barclay FR, 1971) 46 minutes ago, JSngry said: EXOTIC!!! Gheorghe Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 23 hours ago, BillF said: I got this very very late, just a few years ago and was a bit disappointed. I don´t get the same feeling I would get with Miles and Trane with that fantastic rhythm section. And considering all that Pepper horror stories that are told about the days before this session, you just hear at any moment that the stuff is not well prepared. Jazz me Blues and Waltz me Blues just are not the stuff I want to hear. It does not fit together with that rhythm section and that "Waltz me Blues" or how it is titled is just a bit ridiculous, there are much better 3/4 time jazz pieces on records. 21 hours ago, BillF said: I think when I was a teenager it had a white bird and some blue sky and so. Bird is great, maybe that much guitar solos is a bit too overwhelming. Then it was told it was from Birdland but later I learned it was at Rockland and I have the double CD.
