Carmen McRae “Sarah: Dedicated to You”

Carmen was at her final peak and the sound of this album . … I just love to hear it. And wow, Shirley Horn is really playing.

Stanley Turrentine - ZT's BluesMS00NDg1LmpwZWc.jpg.d6f292a2d2c25f8164ce4763e670b42a.jpg

Hard to understand how this one could have sat in the vaults so long.

Was listening to this the other day, Not top-drawer Turrentine IMO.

Ronnie Cuber's "The Scene Is Clean."  I like Cuber but not this one. Cluttered with Latin percussion and funk grooves.  And Ronnie, though well recorded,  which was not the case when he recorded for Muse, just doesn't blow enough. A drag.

👍 Just pulled it out to listen later. My LP has this darker cover.

Now:

Primary

A very powerful set, though I've always thought the piano (the instrument that is), is not up to snuff. Al Foster is outstanding.

oh oh ! This is some of my very favourite musicians here. I fell in love with Dave Liebman since the days of his playing with Miles, and hearing him live as a leader, he was my favourite tenor saxophonist when I was a kid and teenager.
Somehow I lost the trace and I have heard about "Pendulum" but don´t have the rrecord. This might be something. Al Foster always was my favourite drummer. Also since Miles in those 70´s, ...... and of course for acoustic jazz as well.

If I could choose a famous rhythm section I´d have Buster Williams and Al Foster....

Wayne Shorter - Adam's Apple (Blue Note - Classic Vinyl Series) - Welcome to Harmonie Audio

I have really appreciated the insights into Wayne's music here at Organissimo and the recommendations have been outstanding.  I am spending time with these two in regular rotation.

On the occasion I saw this band my ears were ringing - Tony’s drums were loud and I was stood at stage height right in front of his dual bass drums !!

That was my impression as well.

I assume you meant Xanadu or Steeplechase and not Muse though.
