As much as I remember, it has Tommy Flanagan on piano, nice rhythm section and if I remember right they do "Mack the Knife" and Flanagan´s solo is particulary interesting as he plays each chorus in a different key, wonderful idea. And is there also a ballad, I think "Talk of the Town" . It must have been a very late album of Hawk as it seems his rhythm section is more active like he himself. He kinda had slowed down already..... Quote

Rabshakeh Posted January 1, 2023 Report Posted January 1, 2023 This sort of stuff is so far away from George Howard and Grover Washington that it is really a different genre. Treacly Disney jazz for sale at the supermarket. Quote
scooter_phx Posted January 1, 2023 Report Posted January 1, 2023 I guess I just needed to hear paint being blown off of the walls today. Happy New Year! Quote

jazzcorner Posted January 1, 2023 Report Posted January 1, 2023 An interesting West Coast album listed with main artist - Dodo Marmarosa - Lorraine Geller but is in fact a Shorty Rogers Item recorded 1953 & 1953 at the Lighthouse. Item was produced and issued in Japan only on the Vantage label (Bob Andrews licensed). Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) @Gheorghe I am listening to the Ella Fitzgerald Harold Arlen Songbook, drinking sparkly, and watching the train go around the tree. Superb arrangements by the great Billy May! Give this one another chance! Edited January 2, 2023 by Teasing the Korean Quote

But it must be a certain mood and a certain amount of time when I´m not listening to figure out, but just listening. One thing is sure, it swings. But my first choice if I felt like listening to Ella always was the "Ella and Basie". Quote
