Anybody familiar with Bill Holman's composition (suite??) "Strings and Horns"?

Performed in 1993 with the WDR big band & Holman directing

a) as studio version Oct. 212, 1993

b) as concert version Oct. 16, 1993

Some really good broadcast material on this 2CD set, including a prototype ‘100% Proof’ with his ‘Commonwealth Jazz Orchestra’, which is somewhat revelatory (as Simon Spillett also points out in his notes).

How is the sound on the quartet material on Disc 2? I am a lot more interested in that than the big band stuff.
