Rabshakeh Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Jimmy Smith – It's Necessary This record is crazy good. I'd never listened to it before today. A whole other level. 14 minutes ago, mjazzg said: I don't know that one, as good as I might expect? Yes it is good. It sounds like Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink recording a duo album in the seventies, released on ICP. Exactly like that. Mengelberg's in particularly good form. Quote
Simon8 Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Great find at a nearby used cd store ($5!). "Late" Shaw and a young Geri Allen in cracking form. (Just noticed that the cover painting was by Gil Melle.) Quote
BillF Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Amazingly diverse display of British jazz talent here: Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott, Joe Harriott, Dick Morrissey - and Humphrey Lyttelton! Quote

sidewinder Posted October 8, 2022 Report Posted October 8, 2022 (edited) 2CD from Jazz In Britain. 21 hours ago, Gheorghe said: This is the band I saw live in the late 70´s . Just wonderful. Caught them late ‘79. Roland Prince on guitar, Pat LaBarbera on saxes plus for the night I saw them, Alan Skidmore also on saxes. Elvin more on fire than any other time I caught him in later years. Don’t recall the ‘gruntaphone’ in the lineup either ! Edited October 8, 2022 by sidewinder Quote
Rabshakeh Posted October 8, 2022 Report Posted October 8, 2022 Jack Teagarden – Mis'ry And The Blues (Verve, 1961) I am not by any means a "Dixieland Guy", but this is an incredibly moving blues record, particularly the title track. Quote
