BillF Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 A bit rough at the edges (except for Joe, of course), but plenty of fire. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Stanley Turrentine, "Sugar" KICJ-2560 King/CTI RVG series UHQCD from Japan. This disc sounds great! \ Part of this series of Japanese UHQCD RVG reissues: Quote
jazzbo Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Chasing that great sound with another from the CTI/King RVG UHQCD series, Antonio Carlos Jobim, "Stone Flower," KICJ-2551 I love this album so much, and this is a very nice sounding version. Quote

The hip convertible makes it even easier for us to imagine ourselves gliding up to the curb, adjusting our debonair tie in the rearview mirror, and plunging into the exotic Alhambra! All of that was before my time. But it's fun to imagine. Edited August 8, 2022 by HutchFan Quote
HutchFan Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Until recently, I didn't know that Washington's first name is pronounced DEE-nah. I'd always assumed that it was DY-nah -- like Dinah Shore. Did everyone else know that except me? I gotta believe that's a common mistake. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Returning to Tania Maria, "Bluesilian" cd. I can't help but smile at her verve and groove and her excellent pianism. Quote
HutchFan Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 IMO, the "jazz-meets-classical" thing can easily go sideways and spin off into a dreaded ditch. But it works here. I think it's because this trio uses these pieces as launching points for improvisation. So it's really jazz -- not a hybrid. Quote
