JSngry Posted March 28, 2022 Author Report Posted March 28, 2022 Still a quartet, but I don't miss any additional hors here. By first reaction to that is that between Roland Hanna and (especially) Mel Lewis, they color the quartet in a way that one there's no gaps in the texture to fill. Exquisite! Quote

He writes such nice pieces. The Donald Byrd albums with Pepper on it, mostly the double album live at the Half Note I think..... Quote

Dub Modal Posted March 29, 2022 Report Posted March 29, 2022 Trying to get out of a Bill Evans funk with this one. Nice stuff, and I find myself listening more intently to what Manne is doing for some reason...then Childish Gambino's Awaken, My Love! Some good tunes, with Redbone being an instant classic...but there's not much deviation from a formula here and the sameness can wear thin after a while. On to Total classic from '98. George Clinton's legacy is substantial and probably eternal. Quote
